SegelnAg, a provider of sailing training and boating licenses, was faced with a challenge in improving their online sailing license exam. The existing training tool was based exclusively on multiple choice questions, which meant that many important issues in nautical science could not be answered efficiently. To provide a more comprehensive and interactive experience, SegelNag was looking for a solution that would allow free text tasks to be assessed and integrate AI-driven feedback for users to help them improve their performance.
In response to SegelnAg's needs, we developed an AI-supported feedback system that comprehensively improved their online sailing license check. In this way, we integrated the ability to evaluate free-text exercises, which enabled learners to present their knowledge in a more nuanced way. Using ChatGPT, the system provided each user with personalized feedback to identify weaknesses and explain the correct answers. We repeatedly tailored the accuracy of the evaluation to the customer's wishes in order to be able to guarantee the most authentic experience possible for the customer.
The implementation process included training the AI model using the Segel questionnaire. Tests and iterative improvements were carried out to optimize the system's performance and increase its reliability. Adaptability to potential new questionnaires in the future was also of great importance, instead of just limiting itself to training data. During implementation, despite the limited adaptability of the WordPress plugin “LearnDash” used by the customer, it was also important to integrate these free text answers in an easy-to-understand way for users.
With our AI solution, learners at SeegelnAg benefited from a more detailed but also interactive assessment process that went beyond traditional multiple choice questions. The AI-supported feedback system provided insights into errors and opportunities for improvement and enabled a deeper understanding of the topic.
The owner of SegelnAg, Alexander Greiß, was impressed by the new technology and its implementation, proudly presented it while participating in a talk show and promoted the new features of his online sailing course on his YouTube channel.
